Global News Platform
Dufry is an international travel retailer based in Basel, Switzerland. The company owns about 2'200 stores in 63 countries. Their duty-free and duty-paid shops are situated at airports, cruise liners, seaports, and other touristic locations.
To keep the culture and spirit up within a company of 30'000 employees worldwide is a real challenge. Dufry wanted to face this challenge and we developed a global and mobile news platform, accessible to all Dufry employees providing Single-Sign-On procedures and connections to the Intranet.

Central News Platform with Connection to the Intranet and Single Sign On
A simple and easy accessibility of such a news platform is crucial for success. And successful it is, if it is used frequently. It was therefore clear that a separate login for the Intranet and the news platform was out of question. There had to be a central user database for both. With the rights granted, the user has access; whether on the Intranet, the news platform, or both. A single login gives you access to everything.
A news platform that will be accessed by users all over the world must be accessible with a broad spectrum of mobile devices (i.e. tablets and smartphones). Responsive design is the only way to achieve this.
Frontend and backend were developed modularly since Dufry is also working on a new digital strategy. This guarantees that any additional future platforms and applications can inherit the modules developed for the news platform.
Drupal 8 CMS
With Drupal 8, a CMS was implemented that is powerful, flexible and easy to handle. This was crucial as a long-term solution considering the few thousand frontend users that would participate and communicate on this platform.
Within an agile workflow, budget and timing are rigid, but the scope of the project is flexible. The final product is an agile project collaboration where we decide on the priorities together with the customer. This has the advantage of realizing an MVP (Minimal Viable Product) in a short time frame and adds the ability to respond to changing circumstances.
