Relaunch Intranet

Pax is an insurance company from Basel that sells insurances for private persons and companies. WONDROUS has partnered with Pax for 3 years now and created several digital platforms, from the corporate website, various microsites, a new E-Mail marketing solution to the launch of an innovative new Intranet solution.

The relaunch of the company's intranet targeted the implementation of the rebranding on the employee's central platform so that brand awareness could be enhanced for them.

But the visionary goals of the new intranet go much further. Pax wants to change and enhance the culture of work through digitalization. On a practical level this vision can be brought down to three core features. First: A central platform guarantees unrestrained access to information for everyone. Second: The digitalization of certain processes enhances the productivity of the company as a whole. Third: Digital workspaces emancipate work from time and place.

We saw the chance to create a new brand experience through the design of an application and also to change the current work culture for good.

The Vision Of A Virtual Workspace

Pax and WONDROUS developed a vision: In the future, digital workspaces would simplify collaborational work, enhance the productivity and emancipate the user from place and time. The potential that lies within the digitalization of processes and services is enhanced efficiency regarding workflows and collaborations. This leads to simplification which will also increase the satisfaction of the employees.

Digital Branding

With the relaunch of the Intranet, the branding which was introduced in 2014 was to become more perceptible on internal platforms and applications. To bring the external brand experience to the intranet the corporate website's design was translated and modularly developed further into the application design.

Browser-Prototyping & Feasibility Analysis

Within a feasibility analysis, a detailed browser prototype was created. The prototype was meaningful for two reasons. First, to test the agile workflow with all partners and stakeholders and second, to evaluate the boundaries that were set by Sharepoint so the basic principles of the application could be determined.

App, GUI And User Experience Design

The user experience was elevated to a new level within this project, not only regarding the perception of the brand, but also regarding the application and GUI design itself. To reach this goal user stories were written for frontend and backend based on the created personas. Then, project scope, APIs and GUI-elements were determined and the information architecture was drafted.

Living Styleguide

Right from the beginning, the project was planned in multiple releases (Release Thinking). Applying the brand experience in the application design was an essential part of the first release. A living styleguide therefore seemed like a convenient way to guarantee efficiency within the handling and further development.

Customized Template Engineering

To manage the expectations regarding user experience, the complete application and GUI-design was customized by our developers. Some of the input requirements (Internet Explorer 10, Sharepoint) made that quite tricky, so the standard sharepoint templates had to be rewritten and rearranged from scratch.

Introduction Campaign

To manage the upcoming changes and to introduce the new intranet to the employees, WONDROUS created the digital introduction campaign. Within the digital part of the cross-media campaign, a microsite containing a corresponding introduction movie, two newsletters, a help-wizard, interactive learning stations and a game were produced.

WONDROUS designed and realised the complete microsite, including the movie's and the site's storyboard while the short film itself was produced by a partner.

The help-wizard guided all first time visitors through the application to make them feel comfortable with the new interface. A highlight was the game that helped explain the core features of the so called paxnet. If users still had any questions, several learning stations and supervisors were available within the first weeks of the implementation to answer any inquiries.
