Benchmark Analysis

Market research has shown that the opening of the event business blog had lots of potential and maybe would become the digital meeting-point for the event industry in Switzerland.

Digital Branding

The blog got the name zoon and of course also needed an autonomous and distinctive look, since it wasn't intended to be a corporate website nor a sales channel. At the same time, user experience design guidelines tell us, that less is more when it comes to designing a blog.

We developed the branding therefore in a very reduced way. The simple logo is completed with a meaningful by-line. The chosen combination of typography stands for exceptional readability on screen and represents the technical company behind the blog very well. The colors embrace each other through the clear interaction design. To make the user and content reader dive into zoon's world, the blog works with great full-width images on the homepage as well as the detail pages.

Mobile First Design

As shown with market research and benchmark analysis, online journals and blogs are predetermined to be consumed on mobile devices. Knowing this, the zoon-blog was designed under the approach of Mobile First Design.

The slim navigation structure is reduced to two main points. This allows the full display even on small screens and no burger-menu is needed. The grid works with full-width lead texts and mood-images while the size of the typography is optimized for the small screens of smartphones without making it uncomfortable to read on desktop-screens.

All modules were designed for a large set of devices, knowing about the specific requests of single devices. To reach consistency with the font-look on every device, responsive font styles were defined.

User Tested Interaction Design

During the development of zoon. A/B-testings for different interaction design varieties were held. This lead to a great support with the descision-making.

Also, a small user survey was done. The target was the investigation of online reading habits. Our mobile first approach got confirmed with that and helped us to focus on mobile user experience design.
